A famous online company that provides home delivery of meals from restaurants with scooters, decided to replace the one-way packaging by reusables, with a small deposit. They contacted DW Reusables to develop a durable reusable box as secondary packaging.

The challenge
The home delivery of food generates a lot of waste: when you have a meal delivered at your home, you end up with a pile of trash. The company decided to replace the one-way packaging by reusables, and the secondary bag by a reusable box. The box needed to be ideal to both deliver the different reusable pots of food and sauces, and to recollect the empty packaging.
Our approach
DW Reusables Injection Moulding developed a special plastic box with the ideal size to fit the luggage carrier of the scooter. Stacked two high, the carrier can maintain eight boxes. A handle makes the reusable box more ergonomic and user-friendly. The box is ideal to brand using integrated labels. Furthermore, the customized IML labels at the exterior allows for brand exposure and the insert for coupons and menus improve sales and customer loyalty. The investment in a special mould was cost-efficient, both in the field of distribution and sustainability. The optimised process adds to continuously guarantee a high-quality delivery of the meals. The boxes are fully recyclable at the end of their useful long life and can be produces out of plastic post-consumer material.
The results
During rough transport on scooters and bikes in the city, the meals are stored safely. The boxes can easily be stacked and fit perfectly in the carrier of the scooter, so more meals can be transported in one trip without damage. The isolating material of the box keeps the meals warm. Thanks to a tracking code, the customer can track the delivery of the packaging. The box allows for easy recollection of the empty pots, reducing packaging costs significantly.
When it comes to sustainability, we take our responsibility. We challenge ourselves and dare to experiment. DW Reusables was the ideal partner to achieve this.
