DW Reusables introduces Shellbee®, an innovative reusable tray concept designed to help retailers and producers reduce packaging waste, improve operational efficiency, and create more sustainable retail logistics flows.
Developed as a reusable alternative to traditional shelf-ready packaging, Shellbee® combines the convenience of ready-to-display retail trays with the long-term benefits of circular packaging systems.
Designed for both retailers and A-brands, the solution helps reduce dependence on disposable packaging while improving product presentation and handling throughout the supply chain.
A reusable alternative to traditional shelf-ready packaging
Conventional retail packaging often creates large volumes of waste, frequent product damage, and inefficient replenishment processes in stores.
Shellbee® was developed to address these challenges through a reusable and fit-for-purpose packaging system that integrates seamlessly into retail operations.
The trays are lightweight, durable, easy to handle, and designed for efficient shelf replenishment. When empty, they can be folded down and nested, significantly reducing storage and transport volume throughout return logistics flows.
Because the system is intended for use between producers and retailers, implementation within existing supply chains remains straightforward and operationally practical.
Designed for flexibility, branding and operational performance
Shellbee® trays can be customised to fit a wide variety of retail products and shelf configurations. Dimensions can be adapted to maximise shelf usage and ensure a precise fit for different packaging formats.
In addition to logistics performance, the trays are also designed to support in-store visibility. Full branding is possible through In-Mould Labels (IML) or laser printing, creating strong shelf presence while maintaining recyclability at the end of the product lifecycle.
A dedicated product-forwarding feature can also be integrated into the tray design, automatically moving products to the front of the shelf as items are sold. Retail tests have shown that this type of presentation can increase sales while reducing time spent on shelf-facing by store employees.
The injection-moulded construction provides a long service life and improved product protection during transport and handling, particularly for heavier retail products such as glass jars.
